Getting healthcare in Calais with no money and no papers

The PASS clinic, the FAST outreach rounds, mental health: where to go, when, and what medical confidentiality protects.

Healthcare does not depend on your immigration status. You need no money, no documents and no address to be treated.

The PASS — the healthcare access clinic — is at 1601 boulevard des Justes, Calais. It is open Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 16:30. Appointments are free.

Specialist clinics run there on fixed days: the dentist on Tuesday, 09:00 to 12:00, with only ten patients a day — arrive early; the gynaecologist on Thursday, 13:30 to 16:30, with no ultrasound; the social worker on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 14:00 to 16:00.

Medical confidentiality applies. What you tell a doctor or a nurse cannot be passed to the police or to the authorities.

If you cannot get to the PASS, FAST comes to the living sites. The number is +33 7 66 04 92 98. On Thursdays an outreach round runs from 10:00 to 16:30 around Hippogriff, Buffalo Grill, Fontinettes, Terre et Eaux, Pegasus and BMX.

First aid is also given at several distribution points: boulevard des Justes on Tuesday and Saturday, Quai de la Moselle on Sunday, and at the Secours Catholique day centre on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

For mental health, say so: it is a reason to see a doctor like any other, and it does not harm your asylum claim. Back pain that will not go, sleep that will not come, nightmares, anger and anxiety are things that get treated.

Screening for sexually transmitted infections is free at the PASS, and condoms are free at the pharmacy for anyone under 26.
