Evictions: what happens, and how to get your belongings back

In Calais, the living sites are cleared roughly every other day. The police move people on and take tents, blankets and bags, and sometimes documents and phones.

Humans for Rights Network answers on +33 6 51 46 68 81, Monday to Friday, 05:30 to 18:00. They send “Police is coming” alerts on WhatsApp, and you can follow those alerts or call without giving your name: accounts can stay anonymous.

Belongings taken by the police may end up at La Ressourcerie, in north-east Calais, at 50.967166, 1.894401. It is open Monday to Friday, 13:00 to 16:00, and you should go the day after the eviction.

Not everything is there, and nothing is promised: the guide says what the place does, it does not promise your things back.

To replace a tent, La Capuche runs a waiting list: message +33 6 20 35 52 50 on WhatsApp. Distributions are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 13:30 to 17:00, and you need an appointment.

If important documents have gone — a récépissé, an attestation, a summons — report it at a legal drop-in. The drop-ins are held in the “Bus de l'Accès aux Droits”, in front of the Secours Catholique day centre.
